Projects

Nursing Leadership

COR&D is involved in a new project on nursing leadership with Dr. Laschinger from the University of Western Ontario. The project, Nurses’ Career Aspirations to Management Roles: Identifying the Next Generation of Nursing Leaders, is a national study with data gathered from Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario and Western Canada. In the Atlantic region we will conduct 5 focus groups with staff nurses and managers and 5 interviews with new managers in June 2009. In 2010, we will distribute surveys to nurses from the 4 Maritime provinces.  [more]

Enhancing the Quality of Workplace Communities

COR&D is pleased to announce Enhancing the Quality of Workplace Communities, a new three year project funded through the Partnerships for Health Improvement program of Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) (www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca). The project is receiving additional funding from the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (www.nshrf.ca), Health Canada (Office of Nursing Policy), and the participating district health authorities and hospitals for a total over $400,000.  [more]

Developing a Safety Culture: Shared Assumptions and Interventions

Creating a Safety Culture (March 09-Feb 10) COR&D, with the South Shore District Health Authority, received funding from WorkSafe BC to conduct a project to increase the Safety Culture among nursing staff. Despite the presence of informed policies, training in effective procedures and availability of relevant technology, preventable injuries continue to occur. Anecdotal reports convey that safety practices on hospital units are not consistent with policies and procedures. This research project tested a workgroup intervention to enhance safety citizenship among nurses. [more project information]  [view timetable poster]
We will be holding a conference February 10th in Bridewater. [view conference invitation]
